Getting around the HR portal

Getting Started as an HR Admin 9 min readUpdated 2 days ago

How to sign in and open the HR area, navigate the sidebar, read each page's heading, subheading, and breadcrumb, set language, theme, and layout, and what HR users can do that a regular employee cannot.

The HR portal is the company-wide part of the CLVR Benefits webapp, where your HR team manages benefits, employees, expenses, and company settings. It is not a separate app or a separate login: it lives under /hr in the same webapp you already use as an employee, and you reach it with the same account. If you have HR access, an extra HR link appears in the top navigation; open it and you land on the HR area. This article covers how to get in, how the portal is laid out, how to find your way around each page, how to set your language, theme, and layout, and what HR access lets you do that a regular employee cannot.

Sign in and open the HR portal

If your account has HR access, you reach the HR portal from inside the same webapp you already use as an employee. There is no separate HR login and no second password: you sign in once, then open the HR area from the main navigation. Sign in exactly as you do for your own benefits, using whichever method your company uses (a sign-in link, Email and password, or Continue with Microsoft). If you are not sure which one applies to you, see how your company decides which sign-in method you use.

Once you are signed in, CLVR checks your account. If you have HR access, an HR menu item appears in the main navigation. It is only shown to accounts with HR access, so colleagues without it will not see it.

On a computer, the main navigation runs along the top. Your employee links (Dashboard, your name, Benefits Store, Company Files) sit together, and the HR link sits on its own at the far end, set apart from the rest. Select HR to open the HR Dashboard, the landing page of the HR portal.

On a phone, the navigation is a floating pill at the bottom of the screen. For accounts with HR access it shows three main items, Dashboard, Me, and HR, plus a More button. Tap HR to open the HR Dashboard. Benefits Store and Company Files move into the More drawer, which keeps the HR shortcut one tap away.

Note.

Your employee and HR views share the same session. Opening the HR portal does not sign you out of your personal benefits, and you can move back and forth freely.

How the HR portal is organised

Inside the HR portal, a left sidebar groups everything into three labelled sections. Every link has an icon and a label, and selecting one opens that tool and updates the page heading, subheading, and breadcrumb to match.

General

  • Dashboard: the landing page at /hr, with company-wide metrics (marked Beta).
  • Expenses: review uploaded expense reports and benefit purchases.
  • Reports: reports generated by CLVR for your company.
  • Internal Files: a private space for files shared with the CLVR team, kept separate from Company Files and not visible to employees.

Employees

  • View All Employees: browse and open individual employee details.
  • Add / Manage Employees: add people one by one or via bulk import.

Settings

  • AI Settings: configure AI receipt scanning and expense auto-approval.
  • Benefit Settings: manage categories, benefit visibility, BIK, and payroll codes.
  • Approval Settings: create approval flows and manage approver groups.
  • Payroll Settings: set the payroll cutoff timing and weekend handling.

If Partner benefits is enabled for your company, an extra Partner benefits link appears at the end of the General group, just below Internal Files. If you do not see it, your company has not enabled it, and that is expected.

On a phone or a narrow window, the sidebar is tucked away to give the content more room. Open the menu button in the header to slide the sidebar out as a drawer, with the same General, Employees, and Settings sections. It closes again automatically once you pick a link. A Report an issue button sits in the sidebar support area; use it to send a question or flag a problem to CLVR without leaving the portal.

Read the page heading, subheading, and breadcrumb

Every page in the HR area follows the same header pattern, so you can always tell where you are and step back to a higher level in one click. Each page shows a breadcrumb trail at the top, a heading that matches the sidebar link you selected, and a short subheading that says what the page is for.

The heading at the top of each page is the same label as the sidebar link you clicked. Select Benefit Settings in the sidebar and the page heading reads Benefit Settings; select Add / Manage Employees and the heading reads Add / Manage Employees. Just under it, a short line of grey text explains what the page is for, for example "Review uploaded expense reports and benefit purchases" on Expenses, or "Manage categories and benefit visibility, BIK, and payroll codes" on Benefit Settings.

Above the heading, a breadcrumb trail shows the path to the current page, with each level separated by a slash. Every breadcrumb starts the same way: Dashboard, then HR, then the section you are in. So the Expenses page reads Dashboard / HR / Expenses, and Benefit Settings reads Dashboard / HR / Settings / Benefit Settings. The two employee pages nest one level deeper: View All Employees shows Dashboard / HR / Employees / View All, and Add / Manage Employees shows Dashboard / HR / Employees / Add / Manage.

Each breadcrumb part is a link, so you have two handy shortcuts: select HR to return to the HR Dashboard from any HR page, or select Dashboard to leave the HR area and go to your own employee view. This is often faster than scrolling the sidebar when you are several levels deep in Settings or Employees.

Set the language, theme, and layout

The language, theme, and layout controls live in your profile menu, and they apply everywhere you work in CLVR Benefits, both the HR pages and your own employee view. Select your avatar in the top right corner of any page. The panel that opens shows your name and email at the top, then groups three appearance controls together: Theme, Language, and App Layout Width. Each choice is saved to your account, so it follows you on your next visit and on other devices.

  • Language: choose Svenska or English. The HR pages, dashboard, and menus switch immediately, and you stay on the same page rather than being sent back to the start.
  • Theme: pick System (follows your device's light or dark setting), Light, or Dark. The change applies straight away across the whole webapp.
  • App Layout Width: Fixed keeps content within a comfortable reading width and centred; Full lets pages use the full width of your screen, which gives wide tables and lists more room. On smaller screens both options look the same.
Note.

Language only changes the interface wording. It does not change your company's country settings. Country-specific features such as the Swedish payslip and the Swedish tax fields appear based on your company's country, not the display language you pick, so an English interface still shows the Swedish payslip for a Swedish company.

What HR users can do versus a regular employee

Everyone signs in to the same webapp, but what you can see and do depends on whether your account has HR access. Whether or not you have it, your personal experience is the same: your main navigation shows Dashboard (your personal overview), your name (which opens your own My Benefits area), Benefits Store, and Company Files. This employee view only ever shows your own benefits and balance, and HR access does not change it in any way.

If your account has HR access, the extra HR link opens the company-wide portal. From its sidebar you can:

  • Dashboard: read company-wide metrics like participation rate and average spend (this page currently shows a Beta badge).
  • Expenses: review every uploaded expense report and benefit purchase across the company, and approve or decline them.
  • Reports: open payroll reports generated by CLVR.
  • Internal Files: share files with CLVR that your employees never see.
  • View All Employees and Add / Manage Employees: see the whole employee list and add, edit, or offboard people.
  • Benefit Settings, Approval Settings, Payroll Settings, and AI Settings: configure benefits, approval flows, payroll handling, and AI features for the company.

Having HR access never changes your own benefits. Your My Benefits area, your allowance, and your own expense reports behave exactly like any other employee's. The HR portal is for managing the company; your personal benefits stay in the employee view, and you move between the two using the top navigation. Inside the HR portal, the breadcrumb trail starts with Dashboard then HR, so selecting Dashboard in that trail returns you to your own employee dashboard.

Troubleshooting

The HR area is protected, so only accounts with HR access can open it. If your account does not have HR access and you try to open an HR page, CLVR either sends you back to your employee Dashboard or shows a short Access denied. HR only. message. Both are the same guard working as intended; the HR area is hidden from regular employee accounts on purpose, so nothing is broken when this happens.

  • There is no HR link in my navigation. Your account does not have HR access. A missing HR menu item is the clearest sign of this. If you only manage your own benefits, that is expected.
  • I should have HR access but cannot get in. HR access is set on your account by your HR contact, the person who manages your company's CLVR Benefits setup. It is not something you turn on yourself. Ask them to enable it, then sign out completely and sign back in so your account reloads with the new access.
  • I opened /hr and was sent back to my dashboard, or I see "Access denied. HR only.". The guard redirected you because your account does not have HR access yet. Confirm with your HR contact that it is enabled for you.
  • Access was just enabled but the HR link is still missing, or I still cannot get in. Sign out completely and sign back in so your account reloads with the new access.
  • I see the HR link on one device but not another. HR access is tied to your account, not your device. The link is the same on both; on mobile, tap More if you do not see what you expect, make sure you are signed in to the same account, and sign out and back in on the device that is missing it.
  • My language reset after signing in elsewhere. Your preference is saved to your account, so open the profile menu on that device once and reselect it; it will then stick.
  • The Swedish payslip still shows in English mode. That is expected. The payslip and tax fields follow your company's country, not your display language.
  • Full width looks the same as Fixed. You are likely on a smaller screen or window. Widen the browser window on a large display to see the difference.
