Set an employee's manager
Set or change who an employee reports to, so the right person approves their expenses, and replace a manager who has left.
An employee's manager approves their expenses when your approval flow has a manager step. You set the manager in the person's panel. When you change it, expenses still waiting on the old manager move to the new one. Expenses already approved or declined stay as they are.
Set or change the manager
To remove a manager, clear the field so it says No manager, then save.
The list only shows current employees. A person can't be their own manager.
You can also pick a manager for each new person in the Manager column on Add employees. In the employee list, the Manager column shows everyone's manager. The Manager filter shows only the people who report to one person.
When a manager has left
A manager who has left isn't in the list. If a person's manager has left, a warning triangle shows next to Manager. Pick a new manager, so their expenses don't wait on someone who has gone.
This usually happens when you offboard a manager. CLVR then asks you to pick new managers for their whole team when you set their last day. See Terminate or offboard an employee.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find the person I want in the list. The list only shows current employees. If the manager has left, pick someone still employed. You can't pick the person themselves.
- My change didn't take effect. It waits in the bar until you select Save changes. If you discarded it, set it again and save.
- I set a manager, but approvals went somewhere else. A manager only approves when your approval flow has a manager step. Check your approval flow in Approval settings.
- The Manager field is locked. Your employee data comes from an HR system, and the manager comes from there too. Change it in that system, then sync.
